People don’t face many problems when they fly, but you can make airplane travel safer and more comfortable if you follow certain tips:


  • Carry all your important medicines in carry-on luggage. Consult your doctor as to whether should you change your dosages as your eating and sleeping habits will change in the new place. Make sure that you carry extra medicines with you, so that it lasts your entire trip.
  • Carry your identification card if you have diabetes or epilepsy. Have the name and phone number of your doctor for emergency purpose. Do carry the name and dosages of all your medicines.
  • To avoid dehydration in airplane travel, drink non-alcoholic, decaffeinated beverages, water & fresh fruit juices.
  • Avoid tight clothing during your flight. Opt for loose clothing made out of natural fibers. As it is correctly said comfortable dressing brings you comfortable flight.
  • Carry hand-wipes to avoid contracting with germs. Rinse your hands all time when you place them on any public surfaces & make sure you don’t touch your hands to your face, mouth etc…
  • Opt for an aisle seat so that you can walk up & down the aisle to avoid immobility in legs which may lead to leg clots or deep vein thrombosis (DVT) also identified as economy-class syndrome.



How to avoid Jet lag problem?

  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Avoid overeating.
  • Exercise whenever you find time on the trip.
  • Try eating balanced meals.
  • Sleeping medicines should be taken for few days only.
  • Get accustom to your new time zone.



How to avoid pain in the ears?

Many people get pain in the ears while flying, so it is advisable to take in a decongestant medicine before you get on the plane. You can also chew gum in flight. Babies can suck bottles in airplane.

Passengers can get blood clot in their legs because they have to sit for long hours in the flight. Try walking every half an hour in the flight. If your doctor has recommended that you have to take oxygen when you travel, tell the airline well in advance about it. Free oxygen will be provided to you by the airline. Federal air regulations don’t allow any passenger to carry their oxygen with them in the plane. If you want special meals or wheel chair tell the airline well in advance about it.

Tips to stay healthy when traveling to other countries?

Before You Travel:

  • Consult a doctor, at least 6 weeks before you leave, for immunizations or vaccinations if any required.
  • Go for medical & dental check- ups & carry the prescribed medicines.
  • Verify how much your health insurance will pay if you consult a doctor in another country.
  • First-aid kit must be fitted in.



Essential Vaccines required :

Hepatitis A or hepatitis A immune globulin, Pneumococcal, Polio, Influenza (the flu), Japanese encephalitis, Measles-mumps-rubella, Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids, Typhoid fever etc.


Remember While You Travel:

  • Eat well cooked food to avoid the risk of diarrhea.
  • Avoid eating food from street vendors.
  • Carry all preventive medicines for the most common diseases in the country where you are going e.g. malaria, yellow fever etc…
  • To avoid exposure to various diseases, do not indulge in any water activities and swimming in lakes & streams.
  • Insect repellents that have DEET will work best, if you are visiting a country with the risk of mosquito-borne disease.
  • Do not take overcrowded transportation and ride in vehicles following all the safety measures.

Last but not the least ,your first aid kit needs to include the following kits:

Prescribed medicines, Decongestants and antihistamines for allergies, Scissors,tweezers, thermometer, mirror, Antibiotic ointment, pocket knife, nail clippers,bandages, Hand wipes and hand sanitizers etc.
