Steps That Will Help You Choose A Good Seat

People want to have a pleasant flight experience, but it may not be if you’re sitting next to a restroom, cannot recline properly, people walking continuously in the aisle when you’re trying to take a nap. You can get a proper seat, when booking, especially online. You can choose a seat of your choice. Here are a few steps that will help you get a proper seat on the plane.

Choose your preferred class:

First Class

First class: If you choose first class you can avail certain facilities like large seats, entertainment, good meals and plenty of legroom. But first class is most expensive when compared to other classes.

Business class: Business class almost provides same type of facilities to its passengers as first class, although it is not quite as spacious.

Premium Economy class: When compared to economy class, Premium economy class has little more legroom space, better service and better in-flight entertainment. You have to pay higher fare than economy class to avail this class facility or it may be offered as a free upgrade to frequent fliers or people who buy a full-fare ticket.

Economy class: In economy class, passengers get smaller seats, average food and reduced service quality. It is least expensive when compared to first and business class. Most of the airlines have economy class facility.

List out your preferences:

Business class provides all facilities listed below but in economy class you may not get certain facilities.

List of the facilities

  • Internet Access
  • Audio
  • Meals
  • Infant items
  • In-seat power outlets
  • Window seat or aisle seat
  • Seat in the front, middle or back of a plane

Choose your preferred airline:

Airlines

Travelers have entry to airport lounges before departure and in various cases, an arrivals lounge facilitating you to bathe and refresh up after a long journey.Travelers can get access to airport lounges in the following ways:

  • Once you have decided your airline, try to find out which type of aircraft usually serves the route you will be taking. Is it Boeing 767-400ER or Airbus A340?
  • Check out various websites to get details about seat comfort. Find out which seats have the most legroom, do not recline, are adjacent to lavatories, exit rows and have power ports.

Go in for exit row seat:

    Exit Row

Exit row has additional pitch and legroom. Seats that are available in front of the exit row do not recline, providing you more legroom.

    Empty middle seat:

You can choose a row where there’s already someone in the window or aisle seat is,as if you sit down in a row with two empty seats next to you, there’s good chance that a traveling pair will take them. But if you see, empty middle seats gets filled up in the last, so you can take advantage of that. If you’re traveling with your family members, partner or friends, reserve the window and aisle seat towards the rare of the plane, leaving the middle vacant, and by chance, if someone does sit in the middle, they might be happy to switch at the last minute.

    Seat pitch of various airlines:

    Seat Pitch

Inquire regarding seat pitch of various airlines. Domestic coach seats have 31” seat pitch, some have more or less:

    • United 737-300s – 32” seat pitch
    • US Airways A320s – 32” seat pitch
    • AirTran B717 – 30” seat pitch
    • US Airways A330 – 34” seat pitch

    Airline's Booking Site:

    Search Online

Try to book your flight directly from the airline’s booking site. You can choose the seat of your choice.

    • While selecting a seat, find out which are available and which are not.
    • Reserve the seat of your choice
    • If you’re not allowed to choose the seat, it means that the flight is overbooked. You’ll probably just get whatever is left over.

    Reaching Airport:

    Reach Airport

Get to the airport at least two hours before an international flight and one and one half hours before a domestic flight to allow time for check-in and security. If you are not checked in on time, airline may give your seat to another passenger.
