Business Class-Bulkhead Seats

Bulkheads

A bulkhead is the material partition which divides an airplane into various classes or sections. It can either be a wall or curtain or screen. It acts as a partition between classes i.e.business and economy . Bulkheads are found throughout the plane, sorting out the seats from the restroom areas and galley.

Bulkhead Seats

Bulkhead seats are positioned directly at the back of the bulkhead separators.

Advantages of Bulkhead Seats:

  • If there is no seat in front of you, there will be no one reclining into your legroom, which will make you comfortable to move easily.
  • Some bulkhead seats offer additional legroom. If the bulkhead wall or screen is located facing the first row of seats, passengers on bulkhead seats will have the benefit of extra legroom. Cut-outs in the wall will give space for you to relax your legs. Cut-outs are of different size.
  • If you are flying in a plane with personal televisions, it can be placed in your seat's support as there is no reclining seat in front of you.
  • If there is a seat in front of you, passengers cannot put their feet up on the bulkhead wall, if they want to do so.

Disadvantages of Bulkhead Seats:

  • If you have opted for a standard bulkhead seat, this will provide you with limited legroom as the bulkhead wall will be located in front of your seat. These seats will be colored either in white, yellow or red according legroom space provided.
  • If there is no seat placed in front of you, there will be no provision for under-seat stowage. During take-off and landing, flight Attendants will restrict to keep any bags in front of you. This rule is meant for all bulkhead seats, not considering the hauler or class in which you are traveling.
  • If there is no seat placed in front of you, then handling tray tables is not possible. So the tray tables for bulkhead seats are placed in support of seat. This makes the armrest fixed and the seat width is also reduced. If you are flying on an airplane which provides you with personal televisions, the same will also be placed in the armrest.

You must acquire the bulk head seat while travelling with an infant so you can avail the bassinet. Make sure what kind of in-flight entertainment your plane has. Screens located in the front, on top of the bassinet, will not help making your baby to sleep. Bulkhead seats are located next to the kitchen or the rest rooms, this will result in noise. But still it provides with enough legroom to settle your child to sleep unlike other seats.
